The 1962 Chevry Nova was the first in the model of the Nova, the first generation lasted from 1962-1965. However, the six-cylinder was the third generation engine. The Chevy Nova was released as an answer to the earlier developed Plymouth Valiant by Chrysler. The Original Nova did not come with a V8 option, but the car was suited for one. It was commonplace for car enthusiasts to replace the six-cylinder with a V8 engine and it became a dealer-installed option between 1962 and 1963.
In 1962 the Chevy Nova was offered in a convertible body style as well as a two-door hardtop. Just as Chevy did with any two-door hardtop, the Chevy Nova was marketed as a Sport Coupe.
